What is Career and Technical Education (CTE)?
Career and Technical Education (CTE) prepares students for 21st century careers. According to the Association for Career and Technical Education the largest national education association dedicated to preparing youth and adults for successful careers, CTE evolved from a number of vocational programs established during the turn of the 20th century and covers many of the major occupational fields, including Agriculture, Hospitality, Law and Public Safety, Health Occupations, Transportation, Marketing and Business, and more.

How does CTE work?
CTE programs are typically offered in public high schools - both "comprehensive schools" as well as "career and technical schools" or academies – although some public middle schools may offer CTE courses as well. In most CTE programs, academic subject matter is taught in the context of real-world situations with particular relevance to professional practice. As a result, students gain employability skills, have the opportunity to earn professional credentials and gain work experience while working toward a secondary or postsecondary degree.
