CHATEAU PINERAIE
A leather parchment manuscript, written in latin in 1456, proved that at that time the Burc
family was already the owner of land around Cahors at the Chateau Pineraie. All this is confirmed
by deeds of vineyards from 1663 and 1838. Since then, generations of wine makers have followed
on this predestined land. Nowadays, the 5th and 6th generations work together. Anne and Emmanuelle
of the 6th generation have decided to give their support, their help and their knowledge to their
family venture in producing top quality Cahors.
The vineyards' soil at Chateau Pineraie has all the types of soil that makes the Cahors the perfect
place for producing award winning Malbec or Cot as it is called in Cahors. On the terraces,
the vineyard is made of subsoil composed of old alluvium and limestone plateau with clay and marl.
All of the estates vines are composed of 85% Malbec and 15% Merlot, the vine stocks of the Pineraie
are on the 2nd and 3rd terraces and on the limestone plateau. A dozen hectares are placed on the
commune of Lacapelle Cabannac. The lower parts of the vineyard are clay while the higher parts
are clay, limestone and hard flint.
The yields is set for each wine depending on where in the vineyards each wines dedicated vines
are grown thus getting the best from the land as possible.
Chateau Pineriae is extremely cognizant about the quality control and overall quality of their
wines. For this reason the winery has chosen a sustainable agriculture approach. The philosophy
s all about the quality of the product and protecting nature and the health and the security
of the consumer.
The Cuvee L'Authentique was selected by DECANTER magazine as one of the best Malbec wines in the
world! "A Cahors among the best wine in the world", wrote Decanter. 40,000 wines were presented
for the competition, 9219 were rewarded, 251 received a gold medal, 97 a regional reward and only
26 for an international recognition (by grape variety) and Château Pineraie won "BEST" for their
Malbec.
