THE REGION ...

friuli-venezia giulia (italy)  Friuli-Venezia Giulia is one of the oldest inhabited Italian regions. Though the wines produced in this region represent only two percent of Italy's production, to some they are comparable in quality to wine produced in Piedmont and Tuscany, the two most celebrated wine producing regions of Italy. The main difference between the regions is that Friuli- Venezia Giulia wines are mostly white, though some exceptional red can be found as well.

The local wines are remarkable for the number of grape varieties that are used in their blends. In addition to the native grapes, different varieties have been introduced over time. Add to this the winemaking skills of the Friulani, and the result is the creation of exceptional wines.

DAVID ALESSANDRO

David Alessandro Pinot Grigio is a pleasant surprise to Pinot Grigio for us, stylistically speaking. Pinot Grigio for years has been regarded as simple white table wine and inferior quality Pinot Grigio can be abundantly found on retailers' shelves across America. We like to believe that David Alessandro Pinot Grigio delle Venezie is a Pinot Grigio with a difference! Thanks to the lees ageing and top quality grapes from Italy's Colli-Orientali del Fruili region - not to mention the consummate winemaking skill of Christian Patat of Necotium.

The wine is blessed with ripe honeysuckle aromas and spicy white peach flavors. David Alessandro Pinot Grigio is slightly "Ramato", meaning copper color in Italian, which is caused from a slight skin contact for a period of a few hours before being pressed off the skins. This is what Pinot Grigio is supposed to be.

RONC DI VICO

Ronc di Vico was founded in 2004 from an idea of Gianni Del Fabbro who after studying the art of wine making with the help of a famous and highly qualified winemaker in Friuli. At first it was a cultivated passion of leisure but with the passage of time it has become a daily task that involves the whole family and especially, his son Lodovico who works entirely within the corporate aspect of running a vineyard to the painstaking care and pruning in vineyard.

Only 8 hectares are planted in the northern area of Colli Orientali del Friuli Doc, in Savorgnano del Torre. This is one of the grand cru of Friuli; the soil is made of layers of sandstones, limestone, clay and marls of oceanic origin (between 34 and 55 million years ago). This area is cooler than the rest of the appellation, thus giving rise to slightly less alcoholic wines and a just a bit more acidic. Ronc di Vico is cared for with strict organic regard to the work of winemaking. The production is small in comparison to the total area of the vineyards. Of course, as a result, quality is the aim here in spite of the quantity produced.

Ronc di Vico wines are some of the most rewarding expressions of fruit and terroir coming out of Italy today.
